WIND TURBINE FLOATER

As wind power generation progresses into deeper water, there will be a need for alternative support away from the traditional seabed mounted structure. The industry has realised this and a number of designs are being developed.
Many of the current floating structures wind turbine supports proposed are limited in their capability for higher environments, in combination with the expected seas, lack stability for the wind loads on the nacelle, and, due to their  limited size, suitable mostly for low output turbines in relatively sheltered waters. To simply increase the size of such units can satisfy some requirements, but will also increase the fabricated steel costs. Importantly, as those seen to date are moslty  supporting nacelles of the 2 MW - 4 MW range, the projects struggle to be financially viable or cost effective.
Using a unique in house designed hull and modifying to reduce weight and increase stability, DMC Technical Pte Ltd has developed a cost effective wind turbine floating support.
Our floating unit is capable of supporting a wind turbine, designed around an 8-10 MW Nacelle, offshore in deeper water. A moored unit, suitable for conventional mooring, offering excellent stability, code complaint and suitable for envisaged environment on the UKCS.

Our lighter structure with lower fabrication costs yet stilll meeting the strengh & stability requirements. Modular build can be assembled in any location, taking advantage of location of placement, or of any country specific acts or subsidies. Capable of being fully built inshore on land or dock and being towed out as a complete unit to the location, without the need for expensive installation vessels or cranes. Similarly, the unit can easily be decommissioned and moved on by being towed to shore or new location, fixed on conventional mooring, pile, or TLP.

On this webpage, below we show an indicative selection of proposed design from other parties whose designs are in the public domain. Our design is not on this website – we believe our design is better suited to the offshore environment, capable of a greater Nacelle load, in higher environments, yet remains cost effective. Even though it is under patent process, releasing it to the public domain would risk loss of control.
